Overview

Environmental design refers to a practical art which designs the interior and exterior space in an artistic way. It includes a wide variety of subjects: architecture, urban planning, ergonomics, environmental psychology, design aesthetics, sociology, literature, history, archaeology, religion, environmental ecology, and environmental behavior, etc.

Objectives

Environmental design aims to cultivate talents with all-round development of morality, intelligence, physique and aesthetic and talents with the ability to meet the demands of regional economic construction and social development and to train application-oriented professional talents with basic environmental knowledge and professional skills, creative and designing capability, which make it possible for the students to deal with building interior decoration, display art design, exterior visual image design and landscape integrated design, etc.

Ergonomics, Engineering Graphics, Form and Space Modeling, History of Chinese and foreign Design, AutoCAD Design, 3Dmax Spatial Design,    Environmental Art Principle (Room Space Design), Public Space Design,    Decoration and Materials, Furniture and Lighting Design

Features

1. To cultivate students’ professional ethics (to be a conscientious designer). The school emphasizes the analysis of dangerous and failure cases, enforces the “people-oriented” design principles and improves students’ professional ethics to avoid the irregular phenomenon in domestic design market.

2. To combine production and academy by practicing real project. Real cases will be inserted in the assignment and the test of most courses in order to lead the students into the role of designers in advance and shorten their working adjustment period.

3. To elaborate professional directions for adapting the demand of the market. The school has been elaborating the professional directions in order to adapt people’s increasing demand in inhabitation and appreciation. To offer the students a broader and larger learning platform, the major was divided into landscape design, interior design and software design. 

4. To diversify the methodology. Traditional “teacher-oriented” method will be reformed, and flipped classroom will be adopted in order to return the class time to the students and improve the students’ professional ability in the process of mimicking the real cases.

Future Outlook

1. Broad career prospects. With the rapid development in economy, construction projects and real estate projects have sprung up accordingly. A lot of environmental designers are required both in interior and landscape design areas. It provides more opportunities and little competition to environmental design graduates. It ranges from interior design to exterior design and square, garden, street, landscape, road and bridge in cities, etc.

2. A vast professional demand. Since the reform and opening up, the environmental  design has leaped forward, leading in an increasing demand but insufficient supply of interior and landscape designers. The annual total number of social demand has reached nearly one million.

3. A wide regional distribution of talents. Graduates are mainly employed in designing institutions, construction companies, decoration companies, etc. A rookie designer is likely to be promoted to an advanced designer in two years, and even to be a leader or to run his/her own business.

4. A good salary. The average salary for a regular designer would be RMB3000, with RMB2000 basic salary and generous commission. The salary of advanced designer are possibly RMB5000-8000.  

5. A shortage of professionals. With the improvement of quality of life, people ‘s requirement on circumstance are getting higher. The increase of new buildings and the improvement of urban environment make it clear that the environmental design will become a hot major.
